Today, translators would be lost without computers. Apart from helping with research and word processing, several other computer programmes support the translator's work. Below you will find a list of useful programmes:

Programmes for software localization

These programmes select the pieces of text to be translated (called strings) from the source code of a programme and display them separately. Now these "strings" from the original file can be translated independently from the source code. Afterwards, the programmes will reinsert the translation into the source code.

Examples:

Passolo

Catalyst

KBabel (Linux)

Terminology Management

These programmes help translators build terminology databases, which can be used for future translations.

Examples:

Termbase

Termstar

Translation Memory Programmes

These programmes save complete translations so that already translated passages, words or phrases, once they are found in other texts, are displayed as suggestions and can be re-used.

Examples:

Transit

Déja vu

Trados

OmegaT
